When you’re starting a new habit, like working out, consistency is the key! Unfortunately, EXCUSES become the little chinks in the armor of your resolve to keep going.
Any of these sounds familiar???
- “I had a tough day”
- “I didn’t eat enough”
- “I’ll skip today, but start again tomorrow”
- “I’m sore from yesterday”
We all know how THAT turns out! 😜
Before you know it, “just this once” becomes the norm and your TV remote starts getting more of a workout than your tennis shoes.
This year, I started working out again the week of Christmas. There were lots of opportunities for excuses during the holidays, but being sore was NOT one of them.
That’s thanks to these sweet little bottles of natural goodness. These essential oils for working out relieve soreness quickly and revitalize fatigued bodies—and equally important, knock out any excuse to not get back to the gym tomorrow!
Essential Oils for Working Out
Aromatouch:
doTerra’s Massage Blend melds oils that relax and restore a fatigued and tense body. Oils like Cypress (restoring), Peppermint (cooling), Marjoram (releasing), and Lavender (relaxing) combine together to help muscles recover.
Rub 2-3 drops into sore areas, or add drops into a carrier oil for a relaxing massage.
Deep Blue:
this is called the Soothing Blend, because it combines minty (like Wintergreen, Camphor) and calming oils (like Helichrysum, Ylang Ylang) together. Use either before or after your workout, by rubbing 2-3 drops on overworked areas or mix with a carrier oil and massage in.
Dancer’s Delight:
being professional dancers by trade, my husband Erik and I demand a lot of our bodies. And having started dancing as kids, it’s now been several decades of extreme repetition on our muscles and joints.
Needless to say, the aches and pains are pretty much permanent!
Taking OTC’s like Advil or Tylenol is out of the question—have you seen what those things can do to you longterm?!
Finding essential oils as a natural solution was huge for us! This is Erik’s favorite combination to relieve overworked joints and muscles:
White Fir (to stimulate recovery) + Lemongrass (to warm) + Wintergreen (to reduce inflammation)
Rub in 1-2 drops of each, layering each oil one at a time. You can also add 10 drops of each oil into a 10mL rollerball, fill the rest with a carrier oil (like Fractionated Coconut oil) and roll on for a convenient, mess-free application method.
Chilly Heat:
Lemongrass (to warm) + Peppermint (to cool and reduce inflammation)
Just the scent of Lemongrass is cheery and inviting, and when you apply it topically, you feel that same intense warm on your skin. Combined with the cooling touch of Peppermint, these two oils together are a powerful duo.
Like the others, rub a couple drops each onto affected areas or blend with a carrier oil and massage in.
