To be honest, this was one of the last doTerra oils I added to my collection. All I knew about coriander was that there was an old bottle of the dried variety collecting dust at the back of my spice cabinet. (now being used as a photo prop! 😄)
When I finally got around to getting a bottle of Coriander essential oil, I was so pleasantly surprised.
First, I LOVE the smell! 👃 Unlike other herbal oils, it’s mild and sweet. Most other herb-y oils don’t get used in my diffuser much, but Coriander is fresh, delicate & “green”.
Since Coriander got into my good graces with its scent, I started finding other ways to use it:
Aromatically:
Coriander is both relaxing and stimulating. It reminds me of both a floral and mint-y scent, so it’s no wonder it can instill these two feelings. Mix it with mint, like Wintergreen or Peppermint to energize or with a wood scent, like Douglas Fir, to ground/calm.
One of the main components of Coriander is linalool, which has been shown to promote healthy brain function and relaxation.
Topically:
Because of its high linalool content, Coriander is excellent for the skin. Use on a cotton ball for toning, or add to your daily moisturizer.
Internally:
This one is a tummy tamer! Take a couple of drops of it when you’ve gone overboard with your “cheat day” or hit max belly capacity after a big meal.
Use Coriander oil in your recipes! Add one drop of the oil to a curry or Asian dishes to add a warm, earthy background flavor. Learn more about using essential oils in cooking here.
Fun Facts:
🌿 Because Coriander has a chemically similar essential oil to Lavender, they same similar benefits! Try swapping them out for another another.
🌿 Coriander & Cilantro come from the same plant! Cilantro is the leafy part and Coriander comes from the seeds, but they both taste and smell very different! Even if you don’t like Cilantro, you might LOVE Coriander!
